Helping Subject Matter Experts Refer their network for Jobs

Project Overview
Hunt Club is a new category of recruiting firm that leverages warm referrals from their network of subject matter experts to source, qualify, and hire top talent for companies.

The challenge was to redesign the Experts Product to be more user friendly and guide Experts towards confidence when submitting referrals from their personal network and to increase the number of unique referrals per user.

The outcome of the redesign showed an increase in Expert activity and Experts expressed that they gained more transparency around the referral process as a whole.
The Problem
The former referral tool struggled with several usability issues.
User interviews indicated that people found the onboarding flow to be lacking and unintuitive, which ultimately negatively affected the number of referrals made, user retention, and transparency into the referring process. There was also an opportunity to update the responsiveness of the product and refresh the user interface.

Ultimately, Hunt Club users expressed a need for...
  • A new name.
    The former term "Influencer" felt like something to do with a social media presence, rather than what they were in the platform to do.
  • An improved instruction flow for connecting their network to the platform.
    Users expressed not really understanding why they needed to add their LinkedIn connections to the platform. What's more, those who did upload their connections, typically forgot to complete the final step of the process, leading to them never making that first referral.
  • Transparency into the referral process.
    Hunt Club users were interested in where a referral was in the process after that referral was made. There was not enough communication between Hunt Club and users of where their referral was in the hiring process — even when they were deemed "not a good fit" for the role.
